Dinner at Green gourmet

Green gourmet is vegetarian restaurant in Newtown and St. Leonards.

I have been to Green gourmet many times but for some reason, I have never been to dinner time.

I love yum cya on weekend! so many varieties! Also they do buffet lunch on weekday.

Finally we did have dinner!

For entree

wonton soup  $5.5

wonton is home made. Making wonton is such a time consuming thing so I love eating them in restaurant not at home :)

Raw organic burdock salad $8.6

Japanese style shreded burdock roots, snowpea, lettuce and carrot seasoned with sesame seeds and vinegar.

Burdock is root veggies that is very popular in Japan. It is hard to get one in Sydney so I am very happy to have one. Slightly sweet salad. Yummy!

For main,

Crisp skin not chicken shantung sauce $15.8

Crisp fried wheat protein served with pickles vegetable, chili, vinegar and peanuts.  I don’t cook mock meat at home ( mock meat is processed food after all ) but sometime, I can treat myself …they are yummy!

Clay pot tofu pillow with eggplant $15.8

Succulent pillow of tofu sheets cooked slowly with fresh eggplant and pickled vegetable.

Huge portion! Love it :)) Also quite often, eggplant dish is quite oily but not this dish.

Very importantly, brown rice is available here. Even better thing is that rice with beans! Complete protein !!!

Five grain rice

Brown rice, red bean, perl barley and  kidney bean

Steam vegan custard coconuts dumpling

not too sweet, just right!!! and it is vegan!

All food here has NO garlic or onion. Pure vegetarian…actually vegan

Lunch at Nourishing quarter

Recently I heard about this restaurant then I checked its website.  Immediately I fell in love this restaurant even before I go and taste.

This restaurant uses very nourishing ingredients from central and south America such as quinoa, amaranth, maca, camu camu, sacha inchi, cocoa, hood and chia seeds which I use a lot at home.

And, they cook Asian food with them! Mostly Vietnamese. Some Chinese and Indian.

Since I am Asian, I prefer Asian food to Western food so…It is perfect for me. Also Vietnamese is my favourite cuisine…very light and fresh unlike other Asian cuisine.

we start from entree.

I wanted to order Three sisters combination rice paper roll which serve three kinds of rice roll but very kind and honest floor staff recommend that two kinds is enough so for two of us so  I follow his recommendation and order two kinds of roll.

Latasia Nourishing Rolls

South American Royal Quinoa grains, Omega-3 Chia Seeds, light stir-fried crispy julienned vegetables, Textured Vegetable Protein (Tofu based), rolled in Vietnamese rice paper, served with NQ special Peanut & Bean Dipping Sauce*.

Bi Rolls
Marinade Crème de Tofu Strips interwoven with Royal Quinoa grains and sweet kumara noodles, Omega-3 Chia Seeds, crispy julienne pickled carrots and Vietnamese Mustard Mint (Rao Ram), and cucumber wrapped in Vietnamese rice paper, served with NQ special Peanut & Bean Dipping Sauce*.

Both rolls look the same but different taste, of course

Very fresh and nice. I prefer Latasia one. Yum! I have had many rice paper rolls but it is the first time that has chia seeds. Very very good idea! Even though I put chia seeds into my smoothie every morning,  I am going to make chia seed rice roll  at home :) More chia seeds for me!!!!!!!!

Quinoa noodle salad

I heard that what the signature dish is here, then found out this is the one!

The salad is made up of a quinoa, amaranth with a mung bean glass noodles flavoured with Vietnamese mint, coriander, sprouts and  toasted sesame seeds. The dressing is made up of sesame oil, lime and chilli.  Zesty but slightly sweet and very light. not too much oil is used. The crunchy topping is so nice. Layered tofu skin…outside was cooked until very crispy with soy base flavour but inside is still soft andmoist..Yum!

Sacre Frictura

With julienne Sweet Potatoes, Fresh Corn, Onions and Shallots in Ancient Royal Quinoa / Amaranth batter mix, served with lettuce and refreshing and yoghurt, lemon zest, and fresh mint sauce. very crispy and light. YUM!

congee

This dish blow me away!

Congee is my favourite dish. I just love it! but this congee is very very unique.

rice is cooked with quinoa and served with fresh cabbage, marinated onion ( pink one in the middle ) and chilli paste.  Such a great idea!  Add quinoa to add more nutrition and serve with fresh veggie.  Not only they are much more nutritious than ordinary congee but also vey tasty…I am going to eat congee like that from now on!

Desert time…

We ordered raw cake..and it is VEGAN! I am already knocked out at this state. I love this place!!!!!!!!

RAW Blueberry cheese cake

base is nuts with coconut oil and vegan cream melt in the mouth…

There are sooooo many tea selection.

Not only ordinary tea like English breakfast but also teas like..

stress less

forest berries

soothing digestion

cough no more

regeneration and vitality

sinus releaf

organic immune boost

….and more.

I wanted to have regeneration and vitality but smell was too ” healthy” so end up choosing forest berries

After having lunch here, OMG, I must say this restaurant is one of  the most favourite vegetarian restaurants!!!!!!! I know this is a big comment to make but SERIOUSLY!!! I LOVE it!

After tried many vegetarian restaurants, I found many of them use a lots of oil.  I guess restaurants put lots of oil to make vegetarian tasty ( because fat is TASTY! )

This place…not oily. very nourishing ….very reasonable price…what else you need to ask ??????

I highly recommend to go there if you haven’t been there. I am sure that even you are not vegetarian, you will enjoy the meal…..and get nourished!

I want to try dumplings and a few other dishes so I will go back there very shortly!
